Common questions

  1. [1] How does the IP search actually work?

    You set a brief. The team searches across NUS patents, technologies, research groups, and spin-offs, filters for fit and readiness, and returns a shortlist matched to what you need. You see the probability of a match before you commit to anything.

  2. [2] What does it cost, and is it under NDA?

    The search is how a partnership starts, and sensitive briefs can run under NDA from the first conversation. Cost comes later and depends on what you pursue: a licence, equity, and a research partnership are each structured differently. The team sets terms with you once there is a match worth chasing.

  3. [3] What's a TRL score and why does it matter?

    TRL is the Technology Readiness Level, a one-to-nine measure of how far a technology has moved from lab idea toward deployable product. It tells you how much work is left before you can use it, so you can match the science to your own timeline before you license.

  4. [4] What if there's no match?

    Then you have spent nothing chasing the wrong fit, and the brief stays on file as NUS research moves. If existing IP cannot solve it, you commission new work instead and have NUS researchers build against your problem directly.
