Can I apply?

A 30-second check covering the most common exclusions. If you can answer “yes” to all of these, you’re likely eligible.

NOC is for you if:

  • I’m a current full-time NUS student — undergraduate (or graduate, for the 6-month overseas programme)

  • I’ll have at least one semester of study left at NUS when I return from NOC, without exceeding my maximum candidature

  • I have a clean disciplinary record and am willing to be a strong ambassador for NUS and Singapore

  • I’ll have completed the Travel Preparedness Course (TPC) at least 24 hours before my application deadline

  • If I’m on a scholarship, I’ve checked with my scholarship administrator that NOC participation is permitted

NOC may not be for you if:

  • You’re enrolled in SoC Graduate Coursework, SCALE, ISS degree, certificate programme, or MSVC — these are explicitly not eligible.

  • You can’t commit to having at least one remaining semester at NUS after returning from NOC.

  • You’re applying for a NOC China location and previously held Chinese nationality or hold a Chinese hukou (戶口). Current Chinese nationals can only apply for Shanghai or Shenzhen.

  • You don’t have at least one remaining semester at NUS after returning from NOC, within your maximum candidature.

  • You’re a SoC or CEG student who hasn’t completed CS2103, IS2103, BT2101, CS2113, CS2103T, CS2113T, or IS2108 by point of departure (not applicable to NOC Singapore).

  • You’re a FASS student (Cohort 2021+) on the Full Year programme and want to read FAS2551 / 2551A / 2552 / 2552A / 2553 / 2553A — these are not allowed alongside NOC.

Before you apply

Three things to handle before you submit. The first one is the most time-sensitive.

  1. 01

    Travel Preparedness Course (TPC)

A compulsory e-course for all NUS-endorsed overseas programmes. Required for all NOC applicants.

[Note] Takes 24 hours to reflect in the system. Don't leave it until the last day.

  2. 02

    Faculty prerequisite courses

SoC and CEG students must have completed one of: CS2103, IS2103, BT2101, CS2113, CS2103T, CS2113T, IS2108 by the point of departure.

[Note] Not applicable for NOC Singapore.

  3. 03

    FASS cohort rules

FASS students from Cohort 2021 onwards can't take FAS2551/2551A/2552/2552A/2553/2553A while on the NOC Full Year programme.

After you apply

Four steps from submission to send-off.

  1. 01

    Interview

Shortlisted candidates contacted via NUS email. 20-minute panel via Zoom. Don’t change your slot within 2 days of the date. If you must, email nocapplication@nus.edu.sg with a valid reason.

  2. 02

    Mercer Mettl assessment

A merit assessment. Successful completion is one factor in the final outcome — passing it doesn’t constitute an offer.

  3. 03

    Results by email

By the end of May 2026 for the Jan 2027 intake. Sent to your NUS email.

  4. 04

    Send-off & depart

Mandatory send-off briefing on 7 Dec 2026 (TBC, hybrid). Then you’re off.

On appeals

If you’re not shortlisted for an interview, not selected after the interview, or not selected after assessment — there’s no appeal. NOC selection decisions are final, and the team can’t accommodate requests for feedback or reconsideration.

Things to know before you apply

NOC reserves a few rights that affect your application. We've stated them plainly so you know what to expect.

  1. 01

    Your top-choice location isn't guaranteed.

NOC may assign you to any available location regardless of the preference you stated in your application.

  2. 02

Available locations can change at any time.

A location listed during the application phase may not be offered at the offer stage. NOC reserves the right to amend the list.

  3. 03

NOC may decide your intake year.

If selected, NOC reserves the right to assign you to a different intake than the one you applied for.

  4. 04

Multiple-passport candidates may be reviewed further.

If you hold multiple passports or nationalities, NOC will advise on eligibility and reserves the right to withdraw an offer if the candidate is later deemed ineligible.

  5. 05

Late application appeals are not considered.

If you miss the application deadline because the TPC course hadn't reflected, or for any other reason, NOC will not respond to such requests.

Compulsory briefings & preparatory sessions

Once you've accepted a NOC offer, attendance at the curriculum briefing and send-off briefing is mandatory. NOC reserves the right to withdraw the offer if briefings are not attended.

FAQ

The most common questions before applying

  1. [1] What if I miss the deadline because TPC hasn't reflected yet?

The Travel Preparedness Course can take up to 24 hours to reflect in the system, so complete it well before the deadline. Late applications caused by an unreflected TPC are not accepted, and NOC does not respond to appeals on this basis — plan to finish the course at least a day before you submit.

  2. [2] Can I apply for more than one location?

You apply to NOC once and indicate your location preferences within that application; you can't submit a separate application per location. Note that your stated top choice isn't guaranteed — NOC may assign you to any available location.

  3. [3] Can I reschedule my interview?

Interview slots are fixed once scheduled. Don't change your slot within two days of the date. If you have a valid reason, email nocapplication@nus.edu.sg as early as possible and the team will advise.

  4. [4] If I'm not shortlisted, will I be told why?

No. NOC selection decisions are final at every stage, and the team can't provide individual feedback or reconsider outcomes for candidates who aren't shortlisted or selected.

  5. [5] I'm a Year 1 student — can I apply now?

Year 1 students aren't eligible to apply yet, but you can join the Friends of NOC network to stay connected and prepare for a future cycle.

  6. [6] I'm on a scholarship — am I eligible?

Possibly — but check first. If you're on a scholarship, confirm with your scholarship administrator that NOC participation is permitted before you apply.
