NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC)
NUS undergraduates work full-time at a startup abroad while studying at a partner university. Silicon Valley, Stockholm, Shanghai, and beyond. More than 5,000 alumni have founded over 1,200 companies, three of them unicorns.

The most common questions before applying

[1] Does NOC count toward my degree?
Yes, NOC is credit-bearing. The startup internship and entrepreneurship courses earn NUS units; most students clear them as unrestricted electives, and Engineering and Computing students can apply some toward major requirements with faculty approval.

[2] Can I apply if I'm in Year 4?
Yes, as long as you'll still have at least one semester at NUS after you return. NOC requires a remaining semester back on campus, so most students go in Year 2 or Year 3. You can talk to the NOC office to see if your degree can accommodate 6 to 12 months abroad.

[3] What does it cost?
NOC is part of your NUS degree, so you pay your normal semester tuition rather than a separate programme fee, and the startup internship pays a monthly stipend.

[4] Will NOC find me an internship, or do I need to find one myself?
NOC matches you with a startup through its partner network in each host city. You rank locations, interview, and the programme places you with a host company.

[5] What's the difference between Full Year and Short Programme?
Full Year is 12 months at a single location, for undergraduates only. Short Programme is 6 months long open to undergraduates at all eligible locations, as well as a subset of postgraduates.

[6] Do I need to speak the local language?
No. Partner-university courses are taught in English and host startups take on international interns in English, so cities like Shanghai and Stockholm are open to you without the local language.
