What's in the lab

Equipment What it's used for Projects that benefit
Ultimaker S3 3D printer Dual-extrusion FDM printing of functional parts in engineering plastics and composites. Hardware ventures iterating on enclosures, jigs, and fit before tooling.
Industrial Drying Oven Controlled-temperature curing, annealing, and moisture removal for parts and materials. Materials, coatings, and resin work that needs heat treatment before testing.
Handheld Digital Multimeter Spot-checking voltage, current, and continuity during board bring-up and debug. Early-stage electronics teams tracing faults on custom boards.
Tektronix MD034 Mixed Domain Oscilloscope Capturing analogue, digital, and RF signals, with a built-in spectrum analyser for EMI. Connected devices and wireless startups chasing signal and interference issues.
Epilog Fusion Pro 24 Laser Cutter Precision cutting and engraving of acrylic, wood, and thin materials. Device housings, enclosures, and structural prototypes.

FAQ

Questions about the equipment

  1. [1] Can I use the equipment myself, or does the team operate it?

It depends on the equipment and your clearance. Some tools you can run yourself once you've been trained and signed off; others are operated by the technical team because of cost or safety. The facility is by appointment, so the first visit covers what you're cleared to use.

  2. [2] What's the booking and availability process?

The facility runs by appointment, not drop-in [TBD]

  3. [3] Is there a cost to use specific equipment?

[Needs the team's answer, and it's the highest-stakes question on the page

  4. [4] What training or clearance is required?

Most equipment requires a safety induction before you can use it, and some tools need specific sign-off.

  5. [5] Can external or corporate partners access the lab?

Yes, with a collaboration agreement in place.
